In a back and forth game in St. Louis this afternoon, the Cardinals had the advantage of batting last and they took advantage of it as Lou Brock powered one out of the park with a man on to give the Cardinals a 6-4 win.  Brock had quite a day, going 4/5 with 2 stolen bases.  

Ted Sizemore had a 2-run double in the 4th to give the Cards a 2-1 lead.  But that was short-lived as Denny Doyle responded with his own 2-run double in the top of the 5th to put the Phils on top 3-2.  Lou Brock and Ted Simmons each had RBI singles to put the Cards up 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th.

It stayed there until the top of the 9th.  Willie Montanez and Terry Harmon singled with one out.  After Moe Drabowsky struck out Deron Johnson, Greg Luzinski singled to left, scoring Montanez to tie the game.  Mike Anderson struck out to keep the Phillies from doing more damage.

In the bottom of the 9th, Dal Maxvill popped up, but Luis Melendez singled off Joe Hoerner.  Lou Brock worked the count to 2-1 on his former teammate and, on a hit & run, Melendez was able to run all the way home as Brock parked the ball in the right center field bleachers.   Jose Cruz also had an excellent game, going 4/4 with 2 stolen bases,

St. Louis Gets Riveting Walk-Off Win The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-4, at Busch Stadium 1966-1972. St. Louis left fielder Lou Brock had a superb performance. He went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. St. Louis reliever Moe Drabowsky picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Joe Hoerner was tagged with the loss. St. Louis goes to 2-1. The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, Brock hit a slider from Joe Hoerner for a 2-run home run. The Cardinals, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win. "It's great to see the crowd jacked up," Brock said.
