 Houston thrashed Atlanta starter Tom Kelley to sweep today's doubleheader and earn a split of this series with an 8-0 win.  Dave Roberts was acquired over the offseason from San Diego for 3 prospects started his season off right with an 8-hit shutout.  This is picking up right where he left off as he finished second to Tom Seaver in ERA in the NL in 1971.

After Jim Wynn homered in the first, Cesar Cedeno followed up with a bases loaded triple in the second and the Astros didn't look back from there.  Cedeno finished with 3 hits as did Lee May to lead a balanced attack.  The Braves bullpen held the Astros scoreless over the last 5 innings, but the damage had been done and Atlanta couldn't muster a rally.

Atlanta and its tired bullpen has to catch a flight to LA to play the Dodgers tomorrow.  The Astros go back to Houston to entertain the Padres in their home opener tomorrow.

Roberts Silences Atlanta, 8-0 It was a long day at the plate for the Atlanta Braves at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium  today. They never figured out Houston Astros starter Dave Roberts and were shut out 8-0. The left-hander baffled the Braves the entire game, yielding no runs and giving up 8 hits in a well-pitched outing. Roberts also totaled 4 strikeouts and no walks in the game.
