The Reds stay on a season opening roll that is defined by amazing pitching. Cincinnati is off to a 4-0 start and after 4 games, their starting pitchers have yet to give up a run.  All told, the Reds have only given up 1 run and have a team ERA of 0.25.

Today the Reds won behind Gary Nolan's 6 hit shutout. Nolan has not given up a run in 16 innings this year.  On the hitting side, Joe Morgan led the way.  He was 2/4 with a walk, but he also stole 2 bases and scored 3 runs.  When he got on base, it just put too much pressure on the Dodgers.  Tony Perez had 2 hits and 2 RBI and Hal McRae hit a 2-run homer to close the scoring in the 5th.

For their part, the Dodgers didn't play a sound game.  They committed 4 errors to hand Cincinnati 3 unearned runs it turns out they didn't even need.  Mike Strahler and Hoyt Wilhelm each threw 2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen to keep the score respectable.

Cincinnati goes back home to welcome the Giants for 3, after a day off.  The Dodgers are on tap tomorrow in the first of 3 with the Braves before traveling to Cincinnati for another 3 game weekend series.  LA will have to score, as they only have 1 run in their first 3 games.

Cincinnati Shuts Out Dodgers, Nolan Winner Cincinnati's Gary Nolan breezed through the Dodgers lineup today, collecting a 6-hit shutout and a 6-0 victory along the way. Nolan fanned 1 as well. "I didn't really feel like I had my game today," Nolan confessed, "but some days are like that -- you just gotta go with what you have."
