Kansas City does what it has to do in order to score several runs, strings multiple hits together.  They score 2 in the 5th on 2 walks and a hit and 4 in the 6th on 5 hits and a walk on the way to a 7-4 win over the Rangers.

Texas jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Roger Nelson through 4 on a Jeff Burroughs solo homer and RBI singles by Burroughs and Ted Ford.  But the KC bullpen came in and asserted themselves, holding the Rangers scoreless until the 9th.  

Lou Piniella did the most damage for KC with an RBI ground out, an RBI single and a 2-run double.  Freddie Patek and Bob Oliver chipped in with RBI singles and Amos Otis had a sacrifice fly.  The KC bullpen allowed 5 hits and a walk over the last 5 innings, but only a single run.  Ted Abernathy finished it up for his 2nd save.

Royals Drop Rangers, 7-4 Kansas City and Texas duked it out and the Royals came out victorious. A 4-RBI performance from left fielder Lou Piniella, who won the Rookie of the Year Award in 1969, led the Kansas City Royals to a win over the Texas Rangers, 7-4. Kansas City reliever Mike Hedlund was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Pete Broberg. Earning his 2nd save of the year was Ted Abernathy. Freddie Patek, the 27-year old shortstop , had a direct impact on the outcome. Patek contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Kansas City up, 5-3. "We're in a marathon, not a sprint," said Piniella. "But I like how we're playing right now." The loss has the Rangers at 1-2.
