 I didn't go into this one thinking Dick Tidrow v. Skip Lockwood would be a tight pitcher's duel but the two of them, and their defenses, combined to put on a show.  Through the first 2 innings, each pitcher had gotten in trouble, but the Brewers turned 2 double plays and the Tribe 1. They can't keep turning double plays each time a runner gets on base, can they?

In the 3rd, the Brewers get on the board first when Dave May triples in Lockwood, who'd rolled a single up the middle with one out.  Tidrow worked out of it and then his hitters went to work. Lockwood walked Graig Nettles to lead off the 4th. Ron Lolich then singled to right and Ray Fosse got the big hit for Cleveland with an RBI double.  Jack Brohamer got Lolich home with a grounder to second. Lockwood was able to stop it there, but the damage had been done.

While that was the end of the scoring, that wasn't the end of the threats. Cleveland had several more opportunities, but couldn't come through.  Tidrow and the bullpen shut Milwaukee down from there.  After Dave May's double, they didn't get another hit and only had 2 runners.

Indians Get One-Run Win at Milwaukee The Cleveland Indians defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, 2-1, in AL action at Milwaukee County Stadium 1970-2000. Cleveland pitcher Dick Tidrow had a standout performance. Tidrow went 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. His record improves to 1-0. Steve Mingori closed the game out for Cleveland, earning his 2nd save. Ray Fosse, who is a two-time Gold Glove Award winner, aided the Cleveland cause with a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth. For the game, the catcher was 2-4 with 2 doubles. "We'll sip on a cold one and savor this win," said Tidrow. The win gives Cleveland a record of 2-0.
