For the first time in over 70 years there is no major league baseball played in the Nation's Capital, but there is major league baseball being played in the Dallas-Fort Worth area now as the newly minted Texas Rangers beat the Kansas City Royals 2-1.

This was a tight game all the way through and Dick Bosman rarely found himself in trouble. Kansas City loaded the bases with 1 out and scored first on an infield hit by speedy Amos Otis. That threat ended when Lou Piniella and John Mayberry followed with pop-ups on the infield. 

In the bottom of the 3rd, Texas broke back off Dick Drago on back to back doubles by Bosman and Dave Nelson. Nelson scored on an Elliot Maddox grounder.  Bosman then took over the game for Texas, not allowing Kansas City to get another runner in scoring position.

Royals Lose to Rangers, 2-1 The Texas Rangers ushered in the 1972 season with a win versus the Kansas City Royals at Arlington Stadium 1972-1978. The final score was 2-1. Starting Pitcher Dick Bosman, who led the AL in ERA with 2.19 in 1969, had a standout performance. Elliott Maddox was 1 for 3 with a walk for Texas. The 24-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the third. With one out and a runner on 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Dick Drago. It was his 1st RBI of the season. "We'll enjoy this win," said Maddox. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
